<h2><strong>Welcome to the HBETA Wiki...</strong></h2> ....A forum for English teachers in the Hawke's Bay to discuss issues, share resources and ask questions.<br /> <br /> <h2>Writing Competitions</h2> <strong>John MacKenzie Writing Competition</strong><br /> <span style="background-color: #ffffff; display: block; font-family: Calibri;"><img src="https://hbeta.wikispaces.com/file/view/John%20Mackenzie%20Writing%20Competition%20Poster%202016.png/592504904/77x105/John%20Mackenzie%20Writing%20Competition%20Poster%202016.png" alt="" title="" style="height: 105px; width: 77px;" /><br /> <span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-size: 14.6667px;">T</span>he above competition is running again this year. Adjust your Term 3 plans to assign time to submit your best students’ work. There are two categories for Year 11, 12 and 13 students to enter: poetry, prose.<br /> The <u>deadline</u> for entries is: <strong>23 September 2016</strong> (end of Term 3, Week 10). Extended from 20 September 2016.<br /> A new Weebly hosts the competition (linked back to the HBETA wiki). Go here to register students. This will give me and the judge, Sarah Rose an idea of what we’re in for and help track entries. Sarah Rose’s details are also on the weebly.<br /> Backup of information and links to previous entries still exist here:<span style="color: #954f72;"><a class="wiki_link" href="https://hbeta.wikispaces.com/John%20MacKenzie%20Poetry%20Competition">https://hbeta.wikispaces.com/John+MacKenzie+Poetry+Competition</a></span></span><br /> </span><span style="background-color: #ffffff; display: block; font-family: Calibri;"><br /> </span><span style="background-color: #ffffff; display: block; font-family: Calibri;"><strong><span style="font-family: Tahoma;">Re-Draft 2015 DEADLINE 30th SEPTEMBER </span></strong></span><span style="background-color: #ffffff; display: block; font-family: Calibri;"><strong><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Let your teenagers write what they want to write, how they want to write.</span></strong><br /> <ul><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">A chance to let some oxygen into their creative minds.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Re-Draft accepts any kind of creative writing, including creative non-fiction.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Students can send up to three entries.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Competition guidelines are in </span><em><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">The Word is Out</span></em><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;"> but can also be seen on our website at</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;"><a class="wiki_link_ext" href="http://schoolforyoungwriters.org/redraft/guidelines.php" rel="nofollow">http://schoolforyoungwriters.org/redraft/guidelines.php</a></span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Entry is free.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">The entry form is in the back of the 14th Re-Draft book, </span><em><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">The Word is Out.</span></em></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Schools' support for the Re-Draft books is what makes this excellent competition possible.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">We thank all our supporters and welcome new ones.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">A few copies of </span><em><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">The Word is Out</span></em><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;"> still available.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">The Re-Draft team (Glyn Strange, Tessa Duder, James Norcliffe) looks forward to hearing from you.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Tahoma; line-height: 1.5;">Contact us at this email address: <a class="wiki_link_ext" href="mailto:young.writers@xtra.co.nz" rel="nofollow">young.writers@xtra.co.nz</a></span></li></ul><br /> <br /> <span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; font-size: 12pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 9.5pt;">The Red Room Company's <em><span style="color: #800080;"><a class="wiki_link_ext" href="http://redroomcompany.org/projects/poetry-object/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Red Room Poetry Object 2015</a></span></em> before the competition closes on 18th September.</span></strong></span><br /> <ul><li><span style="font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 9.5pt;">Aligned with language, literature and literacy outcomes, <span style="color: #800080;"><a class="wiki_link_ext" href="http://redroomcompany.org/projects/poetry-object/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">**//Red Room Poetry Object 2015//**</a></span> is a <strong>free writing competition</strong> that inspires students and their teachers to submit poems about objects that are special to them.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 9.5pt;"> All participants will have their poem published and will receive a certificate of achievement.
